After having a prominent roadside wall defaced by graffiti, the city of Tourcoing, France decided to hold a competition for its redesign. The idea is to install a mural so beautiful so as to deter tag-artists. In the event that doesn't happen, the required two coats of anti-graffiti varnish should hopefully do the trick.

Just across from the mural lies a residency for retired people who will be the mural's "permanent residents." With them in mind I proposed this landscape inspired by a recent trip to southern Spain.

The overall idea is to present two living things, whose differences in size and shape resemble the physical differences between man and woman. The exterior band of color serves to link them together in a general way by providing a common background while the inner-band acts as a bringer of light which speaks to a more intimate and substantial connection. The mural strives to be a graceful depiction of a relationship between two living beings that will be linked in their own unique way forever - or, at the very least, for 10 years, as that's the kind of paint I budgeted for.

This project was ultimately scrapped due to budgetary constraints.
