Based on an earlier trip to the Al Andalusia region of southern Spain, this triptych tries to capture elements of the region's beauty.

Among others, southern Spain is home to the olive and orange tree. My goal was to create something with a simple and appealing aesthetic that would recreate a piece of southern Spanish atmosphere, where a hard evening sun manages to bring out a richness of colors all its own.

The region's colors, especially noticeable in Seville, fall into deep hues of yellow, brown, and red. The paper - a semi-transparent deep yellow/orange - was chosen to allow light to pass through and illuminate the piece naturally. The work hangs approximately one foot away from the wall to further facilitate light entering and passing through the piece. In addition, each frame holds two sheets of the same image, thereby doubling the depth of each color.

This series also provides the foundations for my Boulevard d'Égalité mural design.

This piece was selected among a handful of others for the Al Andaluz exposition at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Dunkerque, France, from May 19th - June 6th, 2006. The piece shown here is 1 of 2.
