Happy Holidays 2008!

Motion graphics, 2008

 <story>

In contrast to the holiday piece done for 2007, this piece focuses on exploiting holiday symbols for all they're worth. Christmas trees, menorahs, presents, ornaments are thrown into the 3D equivilant of a blender and strewn throughout a space that seemingly has multiple blackholes exerting forces on it.

The idea to take traditional holiday symbols and distort them in 3D space was instantiated simply because it sounded like fun. The idea to throw them into a shared 3D space, with all the overlapping and mingling that entails, was born out of a desire to strike a lighthearted chord of religious/holiday-season harmony at a time when most holiday greetings are largely univocal.

The musical component, Tchaikovsky's famous Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy lends the piece a sense of playfulness, cheerfulness, and a good dose of weirdness.

The animation was composed in Maya.
