Taking a cue from its content, the Long Island Allergy and Asthma Society's website is designed to change automatically with the seasons. Spring, summer, winter, or fall, the site will always be wearing the right colors, helping maintain a sense of freshness as time goes on.

A lot of attention is also paid to exploring the space beyond the immediate viewable area. The main tree graphic measures 2,000 x 3,000 pixels. That's big. Chosen to convey the tree's mass and presence, a graphic of that size helps give the site two different viewing experiences - stimulated viewers have lots of room to explore its perimeters, while casual viewers can disregard the extra space and focus on the essentials.

All of the graphics were originally hand-drawn, then digitally reworked. The original drawing of the tree's branch structure measures nearly 6 feet (1.75m) and was drawn in Conte crayon.

As a professional side note, the site represents a coming of full circle. Version 1 of this site, done in 1999, was among my first hand-drawn inspired sites. From that period my design was admittedly heavily guided by the tools at my disposal rather than the aesthetic visions in my head. With the release of this site I feel as though I have taken back the reins.
